To know your future Fortune would be a useless thing if there were not some way to change it. Hence we have what are called "remedial measures" in Vedic astrology, and also in Chinese astrology.
In Vedic astrology, when someone is going through a difficult time period of hardships, agony and misfortune, or simply if an individuals' chart shows a weakened planet, it's common to for an astrologer to prescribe a gemstone.
The gemstone should be a natural stone, never heated nor adulterated in any way, and is to be worn touching the skin to supplement the energies of the afflicted planet causing the difficulty. The idea is that the energy of the pure gemstones - selected because that gemstone's energies are most similar to those of the planet being afflicted - can buttress the individual's energies and help them overcome the difficulties they are experiencing.
What are the gemstone -planet affinities in Vedic astrology remedial measures?
A weakened Sun is strengthened by wearing a ruby, red spinel, rhodolite, rubillite or almandite.
A weakened Moon is strengthened by wearing a natural pearl or moonstone.
A weakened Mercury is strengthened by wearing an emerald, green tourmaline, or peridot.
A weakened Venus is strengthened by wearing a diamond, white sapphire, danburite, white topaz or white zircon.
A weakened Mars is strengthened by wearing red coral.
A weakened Jupiter is strengthened by wearing a yellow sapphire, yellow topaz, yellow beryl or citrine.
A weakened Saturn is strengthened by wearing a blue sapphire, tanzanite, or amethyst.
A weakened Rahu is strengthened by wearing a hessonite, orange zircon or spessartite.
A weakened Ketu is strengthened by wearing a cat's eye chrysoberyl.
I've always found Jewelry Television a wonderful place to get gemstones, gemstone gifts, jewelry and more, including Western birthstones.
Vedic astrology also suggests that certain difficulties can be alleviated if you perform pujas or religious ceremonies, make donations or charitable gift giving, wear yantras or talismans created for the problem in question, or chant mantras. The famous Jyotish astrologer KN Rao once said that of all the remedial measures possible, he felt that making charitable donations was the best instead of buying remedial measures. The book White Fat Cow also recommends the same.
Another thing Rao recommended was reciting mantras. As Rao says regarding mantra cultivation in his Astrology, Destiny and the Wheel of Time, “Deep tragedies, as a result of such recitation, become lighter, lighter tragedies will vanish, and you will develop enough inner strength to face the inevitable with equanimity, at any rate.” My favorite most effective mantras (in my opinion) are found on the mp3 CD (plays only in your computer because it's so long) Zhunti Mantra and Lotus Mantra Practice.
Now for the Chinese ...
The schools of Chinese feng shui and astrology both agree that an individual can be deficient of certain energies in their natal fortune, and in their fortune for the year. In this case, the energies are classified according to the scheme of the five elements earth, wind, water, fire and metal. Interestingly enough, the gemstones recommended by Vedic astrology can also be tagged with the five elements (ruby representing the fire element, moon the water element, etc.), so there is a meeting of the minds that energies must be supplemented when an individual is undergoing difficulties. The only question is, how?
In the Chinese karma calculator reading, the information on how to change your fortune is given directly, if at all, and usually involves changes in your character. But if you went to an ordinary Chinese astrologer or feng shui master, they might suggest you supplement the missing elements of your fortune for the year (or life) by several of the following common remedial measures:
• Keep musical chimes in the house that make sounds in the wind or when touched
• Place flowering plants (wood) all over the house, especially in the East and North East directions. You can also decorate the house with wooden furniture or pictures and paintings of greenery
• Construct a fireplace in your house, and make sure your stove faces an auspicious feng shui direction
• Decorate your house with a small red pyramid or pointed red obelisk
• Favor the color red as a decorative motif for various objects (but not everywhere)
• Wear gold jewelry on your hands
• Hang a metal wind chime in the house
• Decorate the house with metal objects such as metal sculptures
• Keep a fish bowl, water aquarium or running water fountain in the house
• Construct a fountain or swimming pool in the North
• Support charities that provide wells, or clean water to people
• Use a square or rectangular wooden dining table
• Decorate your living space with pictures of mountains
• Favor the the color yellow as a decoration motif for your walls
The Chinese sometimes buy animal pendants for the year, thinking that this will help them with their fortune if that year's astrological indications are not so good. Unfortunately, this doesn't work because a piece of metal is simply a piece of metal, regardless of its shape or design.
There are cases where the type of metal can help someone (such as wearing copper when your sun is debilitated, or copper for arthritis), but the metal animal pendants of the Chinese zodiac are really only fashion statements. Astrology works, but don't throw reason aside and become superstitious!
What I actually prefer is to have someone work on their behavioral faults - their deficiencies or excesses - that can cause your fortune to go bad. Work on yourself, and your fortune takes care of itself. Meditation is the best way to do that. How to meditate? Here's the best CD lesson out there on How to meditate...just pop it into your computer.
If you want THAT sort of advice, as well as particular things to do every change to change your fortune for the better, then get yourself a Karma Calculator reading because every year tells you what to do...unless it's a great year in which case it just tells you to relax and enjoy.
